… condensing on a cool surface. Capturing the droplets of condensation was harder than I thought.

Emergency Weatherproofing of Openings – Strawbale House Build in Redmond Western Australia
Our first hand rendered section (see previous photos) dry. Door and window openings still mostly stuffed with spare straw bales against the wet weather. It was an emergency strategy (thanks, Noel!) necessitated by the fact that the spray renderer did not want doors and windows in the building when he worked on it, and after that it was hard to find good carpenters who were free when we needed them, and the cold fronts kept on coming in. The straw in the openings worked – we only had one area of minor water damage to one bale, where plastic funneled water through a hole rather than keep it off a one-bale-high east sill. Now the window is in, we are monitoring that spot to see if it will dry out in the sun, and confirm with a moisture meter. If it doesn’t, we will replace that bale.
